Balor Bass Artisan

From: €2,950.00

After 15 years of developing the art of acoustic bass we set about not just redesigning, but reimagining what an acoustic bass guitar should be and now we are proud to bring to you Balor. Physics implies that an acoustic bass should be large to properly create low frequencies at a useable acoustic volume. So we have developed a completely new ergonomic shape that is 30 per cent larger than our previous model, yet feels more comfortable to play.

Description

After 15 years of developing the art of acoustic bass we set about not just redesigning, but reimagining what an acoustic bass guitar should be and now we are proud to bring to you Balor.

Physics implies that an acoustic bass should be large to properly create low frequencies at a useable acoustic volume. So we have developed a completely new ergonomic shape that is 30 per cent larger than our previous model, yet feels more comfortable to play.

Finally, we have created an acoustic bass with gut-rumbling low frequencies produced at a volume loud enough to compete in any acoustic jam session.

The Balor Artisan is built to order and generally has a five-month lead time. The Artisan is available in black, amber, red, green and blue, or as a Woody, has full gloss finish on all surfaces, Gotoh Res-O-Lite GB350 Bass Machine Heads 20:1 ratio (cosmo black), pickup and comes with a custom-padded Emerald Guitar gig bag.

I recently received a fretless Balor that I bought with the hopes of replacing a bass made by our friends in Brooklyn. This bass more than surpassed that bass in every regard. The neck is super comfy and you can get around fast on there with no issue. Everything they say about the volume of this bass is spot on, and even though the bass looks massive, it’s as comfortable as an old jazz bass. Top all this off with the best customer service I’ve ever gotten? I think these guys have made a customer for life.

I’ve had my Balor 5 Artisan bass for a few months now. It has proven to be a truly magnificent instrument, and is everything I had hoped for. I ordered it to replace a pair of what I formerly felt were the state of the art in production ABGs, the ones with paisley soundholes. As good as those were – and they were very, very good – the Balor blows them out of the water in tone, volume and playability. The ergonomics are right on target which is no small feat with a bass this size.

Cosmetics and craftsmanship are both stunning. I splurged for an amber finished maple quilt top with amber finish CF. Alistair, Sean and crew really went out of their way to source an incredible top for me, they are even using it for photos on FB and the website – it is that stunning. Plus, working with Emerald on this build was totally trouble free with exceedingly good communication – I always knew where we were in the build process.

This isn’t my first Emerald CF instrument, but it’s the first I’ve ordered new. Alistair and his crew have made me a customer for life!

I’ve been living with my new Balor 5 Artisan bass for just over two weeks, and I can hardly put it down! Absolutely every aspect and detail of this instrument has been executed to perfection – fit, finish, tone, volume and overall FEEL – simply incredible! I perform regularly in a duet with a guitarist, and we decided to split our last gig between “acoustic” and ‘electric” – the audience (including a number of rather accomplished musicians) went absolutely wild when I pulled out the Balor, and my guitarist partner commented that, in his opinion, the bass had an unamplified volume and projection equal to that of a 3/4-size upright bass…….and I’d have to agree! Of particular note are the ergonomics of the bass – playing seated and utilising a shoulder strap, I was absolutely astounded by the way this instrument’s contours blended in perfectly with my own body as if an actual extension of it. Furthermore, it’s neck dimensions and shape are every bit as comfortable as my finest electric basses, and with an action set exactly the same as my electrics’ right from the factory, it proved to be every bit as comfortable to play as them too! Needless to say, I’ll be singing Emerald’s praises everywhere I go – as if the bass itself weren’t doing such an incredible job doing so on it’s own!
