  1. :

I got the X7 this Monday. Had to deal with the customs for a few days, but wasn’t a problem at all. The guitar looks fantastic, and it sounds great!! Honestly, I was stunned by its volume and bass sound!!! Thank you for your hard work. This guitar was definitely worth the wait. By the way, can I know the name of the string you put on the guitar? I like the sound! Thank you again.

A note to say the guitar arrived safe and sound yesterday. Amazed at the size of the package and so light. A great guitar to carry around and the sound, considering its size and material, is incredible. There is a crispness to the sound as I would expect from carbon fibre as opposed to wood but by no means overly so and a good match for many a wood instrument. I knew it was going to be smaller but thought just a little, this is quite a chunk from a full size guitar yet none of the punch of a full size is lost. Plug it in and the windows rattle Thanks again. Well worth the wait…..and if I had not been on a plane to Barcelona and seen your advertisement in the inflight magazine I’d have never have known about you!

My guitar arrived today, and it’s fantastic! A great, balanced and characterful tone, well judged action and a pleasure to play. Glad I got in on the St Patrick’s Day sale and Ill be sure some of my friends will be coming your way when they get to play mine. Best wishes for the future; if this one is anything to go by, you and your company deserve every success.

Hey just wanted to say I got the guitar and I love it! We do a lot of camping and canoeing and I have been searching forever for a high quality guitar that can handle the rigors and abuse of the travel, water, and weather but I didn’t want to sacrifice sound quality, craftsmanship and playability. This X7 meets and exceeds all my needs and expectations!

I love my Emerald X7. It looks awesome. Compared to other ‘travel’ guitars, the longer 24″ scale length, with lower bridge position and 1 3/4″ nut width, makes it play more like a full sized guitar. The carbon fiber construction seems to give it lots of presence – with clarity, note definition, and surprising sustain. In jam sessions the X7 fits in to the mix nicely. It is a quality addition to my wooden guitar collection, and for travel there are no worries.

When I ordered a custom nylon-string X7-OS from Alistair, I knew the vague outlines of what I wanted in the guitar: The great compact design of the X7-OS, an all-over white finish and custom fret markers. Not only did Alistair deliver, he went above and beyond the order. He created a new bracing to suit the nylon strings, selected a lovely pearlescent white paint, and gave me sparkling green sidedot fret markers to go with the custom fret board markers I asked for. Emerald Guitar fans know this: Alistair doesn’t just make and sell guitars, he fulfils dreams of custom guitars at very reasonable prices. And he is proud of every single guitar that leaves his hands.

The guitar is serving me very well, I used it a couple of times on acoustic-gigs and I was astonished how loud it was despite its size! Unbelievable! I love the action of the instrument but it is a bit high, but this could be because I´m playing electric guitars mainly! cheers

  8. :

You have to be patient to receive an X7-OS as they are built to order. But it’s worth to wait for it: I love the design and the material, this guitar is small and very solid: ideal for travelling. That’s what I expected and received. But I got even more: it has an excellent sound (for such a small guitar) and it’s easy to play. I’m playing more often than before and I enjoy it.

Emerald Guitars are not easy to come by as Alistair seems to be struggling to meet demand . That is no surprise as these instruments are definitely worth waiting for . My X7 is beautifully crafted in carbon fibre , has amazing tone , more volume than one would expect given its compact dimensions ….and a great neck and action. Anyone who sees and plays the guitar immediately falls in love with it which is a bit of a pain because I find my mates and my kids hogging the thing, limiting my playing time. As a result I have ordered another X7 and also a X10 with a hard case. It would be nice to have a hard case option for the X7OS and I would recommend that Alistair look into making one available.

This is the most amazing instrument I have ever played. I recently found one used, the minute I picked it up I was in love. I have never before been so amazed in the tonal quality and playability, truly spectacular to look at hold and play. Thank you Emerald for such an awesome guitar.

I am almost 4 months in with my X7, so I have had plenty of time to give to this review… what a great guitar! I have been playing for just over 50 years, and have owned a variety of guitars, acoustic and electric. As a mostly retired guy, I was looking for a comfortable size travel guitar – I own some nice wood guitars and another carbon fiber. The X7 is more than a “travel” guitar: while playing it, I don’t consider it to be a small guitar… it is SO comfortable (great ergonomics) and the 24″ scale neck is a delight. Since getting the X7, it has gone from the south Texas Gulf Coast (warm and humid) to the Arizona desert (hot and dry), and onto the Pacific Northwest (cool and damp). I am a boat captain, just finishing up at seasonal contract – the X7 has been along, allowing me to enjoy it whenever time allows.

The workmanship is gorgeous! I wasn’t sure about the Crystal Ice back and sides, having not seen it before ordering the guitar – I truly appreciate the contrast of the glossy top with the textured sides and back. A visual delight! But, the measure of any guitar is in how it sounds, and the X7 has great balance from highs to lows, nice sustain. This is my first guitar with an off-set sound hole, and I really appreciate how that projects.

I also like the gig bag. It is compact and does a great job protecting the guitar – and, comfortable to carry. For the intended use of this guitar, I prefer the gig bag over a hard shell case. And, while discussing the protecting aspect, I have to comment on the delivery: 4 days from Ireland to south Texas, and that included a weekend! All the stars must have aligned to have it arrive that fast… and in perfect condition.

My thanks to Alistair for the creation, Sean for the great customer service, and the whole staff at Emerald for making this a great buying and owning experience. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

I don’t know where to start with my review of the Emerald X7 OS because this little gem exceeded all my expectations! But I guess that the first thing you will be interested to know is: how it sounds ? Well, after reading the reviews I was expecting a lot, but let me tell you: if you close your eyes this guitar sounds like a much bigger guitar ! I knew that I would have got great mid range and trebles, considering that this is a carbon fiber guitar and it’s a sort of “parlor” size. But I would have never expected to hear such great bass range ! This gem is a little cannon, a lot of people say that they are amazed by its tone “considering the size”, I say that I am amazed by its tone period ! Last, but not least, I am very picky as far as details, cosmetics, set up are concerned. This is the first guitar that I own (and I owned many !) where I didn’t feel any need to make an adjustment. Neck is straight, action is low and perfect, no strings buzz. And the fret work is first class: frets are rounded, perfectly shined and flawlessly inserted in the beautiful fretboard. Finally, I love the 1 3/4 neck width that makes the X7 not only a great strummer but also a perfect guitar for finger style. Well done, Emerald.

  13. :

I received my X7 on Tuesday afternoon. This is the second night in a row that I can’t go to bed until I play this little beauty for an hour or so. I had actually stopped playing seriously for about 3 years.
That has changed. My fingers are very sore and my voice doesn’t sound like it used to, but I’m back playing and loving it. This fantastic little guitar is a huge reason for that. It sits so nicely on your lap, while the sound that comes out of it is not expected from such a compact little instrument. Alistair and his colleagues have somehow come up with a fantastic guitar for its size and the cost. Do not hesitate to add something like this to your arsenal. It could be the only guitar you need.

  14. :

Stunning clarity- incredibly balanced projection and excellent playability!! The construction, the fretwork and the finishing are all top-notch. I’m absolutely blown-away by the sound and feel of this very tough looking little instrument. The stainless frets are well-dressed and it’s intonated very nicely too. I’m so glad I took a chance on a guitar I’ve never played, the passion and brilliance of Alistair’s knowledge of composites comes shining through beautifully, and musically.

  15. :

I just received my X7 after returning one for a structural problem. The good folks at Emerald Guitars were surprisingly accommodating about replacing the guitar. I shipped the problematic guitar and they immediately got back with me, confirming the structure problem. They asked what color would I like, and within a few weeks I had the new guitar… all over the holiday period no less. I love the playability of this guitar. The sound is much more robust than you would expect from a small bodied guitar. The fact that it is half the cost of the competition is a bonus.

I wanted a carbon fiber guitar for my 60th birthday and ordered an Opus X7. I had never seen one in person or played one, but liked the way it looked, saw good reviews and wanted a guitar that could handle the South Florida climate. I often travel (by car) for business and the Opus 7 was going to be my “take it on the road guitar” for practice and playing in hotel rooms while having the advantage of not having to worry about heat and humidity affecting it like a wooden guitar. The e-mail communication with Emerald Guitars during the build time was excellent. They provide great customer service. Now for the review; I love this guitar! It has a rich full sound and is comfortable to play. It just feels right. The finish and attention to detail is outstanding for a guitar in this price range. My guitar teacher and his fiancee liked my Opus 7 too – so much so that they now have one also. I have a 700 series Taylor concert body guitar that serves as my “go to” guitar at home and I honestly have only picked it up once since receiving my Opus 7. Enuff said! One side note, today my guitar teacher told me that one of his friends who plays professionally in a band tried out his Opus 7 and then ordered one for himself as well. The full sound and playability of this guitar wows anyone who tries it. Thank you Emerald Guitars!
