Tony Polecastro has reviewed an Emerald Guitars X20.
The popular YouTuber and self-professed ‘guitar geek’ has just published his review of an X20 Woody from the Emerald Custom Shop Select Series.
The X20 is our flagship model and we are honoured that Tony Polecastro, a highly-regarded guitar reviewer, gave us such an honest account of what he was expecting and his thoughts on our guitar.
Tony has reviewed over 500 acoustic guitars for his YouTube channel AcousticLife.tv playing the same songs, recorded the same way so you can compare the sound of any guitar he has ever featured.
In his review, Tony said the X20 was a stellar instrument and exceeded all of his expectations. “When I think of carbon fibre guitars, I think of a certain sonic spectrum that I’m going to get. This one really, really blew me away.
“In a hundred per cent honesty, I expected it to be very brittle and not very resonant. I was pleasantly surprised after playing this guitar.” Watch the full video above or click here and make sure to subsribe to Tony’s channel.
The January edition of the Select Series, a monthly collection of limited edition guitars chosen by Alistair Hay, featured beautiful cocobolo veneers. Sadly this was the last time we were able to feature cocobolo for the foreseeable future. This veneer has become impossible to source. We still have an X20 12-string from that series available, though!
Fear not, though! Alistair spends a lot of time sourcing beautiful, select veneers from all over the world. So we always have a wide array of veneers for our customers to choose from and we are always happy to consult with you directly to find something special, so get in touch!
The X20 comes in a variety of packages, and is also available in lefty: We try to keep the X20 Opus model in stock or make it available on very short notice. The Opus is available in black only and does not include a pick-up. An LR Baggs Element Active System™ – VTC or LR Baggs Anthem™ pick-up are available as an upgrade. It features Gotoh 381 tuners (16:1 ratio) and has a full gloss finish on the top and a satin ‘Crystal Ice’ finish on the back and sides of the instrument. It comes with a custom-padded Emerald Guitars gig bag.
While we do try to make the odd ones available in our Current Stock section, the X20 Artisan generally built to order and generally has a 16-week lead time. The Artisan is available in black, amber, red, green and blue, or as a Woody (quilted maple or bubinga), has full gloss finish on all surfaces, Gotoh 510 tuners (18:1 ratio), an LR Baggs Element Active System™ – VTC pick-up or upgrade to an LR Baggs Anthem™ and comes with a custom Hiscox Lite Flite case.
We can always build you an X20 Custom Shop model. The possibilities are endless, from veneers, scale lengths to nut widths. Get in touch with us for a direct consultation.
