X20 8-String Woody Quilted Maple Vintage Amber

Nate has been playing 8-string guitar for many years on his Novax guitar, but he was looking for an acoustic to bring a new dimension to his performance and sound. Nate had a strong idea of what he wanted in terms of scale length and neck dimensions based on what he was already used to so we worked very closely together to translate that to an acoustic instrument.
The X20 has proven to be an excellent platform for extended range instruments so was the instant choice for this build. We spent many Skype calls and exchanged lots of e-mails to nail down all the specs and pulled out all the stops to get it to Nate in time for his unveiling on the Hilton stage at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California in January, 2016. It was a pleasure to work with Nate to bring this idea to reality and it was a thrill to get to watch his first performance on it. Definitely an instrument perfectly matched to the player.

  • WE DID 8 String, Pickup

I first learned about Emerald Guitars through Facebook. I have been playing a Novax 8-string for over a decade, but in the wine country, I was getting a lot of calls for ‘acoustic guitar’. After finding a couple of cheap 7-string acoustic guitars (at the time there were no 8-strings that were not custom instruments). I gigged on those for a while, but I was never satisfied.
They just weren’t my thing. Not having the fan, they were all out of tune and I wasn’t able to tune them exactly how I wanted. During this hunt, I discovered Blackbird Guitars in San Francisco and loved the sound of their carbon fibre instruments, but was still missing the versatility of a multi-scale instrument. When I saw a photo of your 9-string fanned fret guitar pop-up on Facebook, I knew I had found the answer.
