X7 Euro 2016

In June, 2016 award-winning Irish radio hosts Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore of Today FM travelled to France to broadcast from the UEFA European Championship for two full weeks and to keep themselves entertained while supporting The Boys In Green, on and off air, we built them a custom X7 Artisan.

As big fans of their very popular programme, we were only to happy to give Dermot and Dave a guitar for the road, and given the occasion, of course, we had to come up something special for their trip to the Euros. So we built them our parlour/travel guitar in green, white and gold.

The guitar featured gold Gotoh 510 tuners (18:1 radio), a custom white fretboard featuring Evo Gold frets, golden bridge pins and as an added touch we set up the guitar with golden Optima strings.

What can I say? It is one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever held, let alone played. As you saw, we hardly ever had it out of our hands. From Rosslare to Cherbourg, Paris to Bordeaux, we plucked and strummed and admired it. It got so many compliments too. I love the size, the offset sound hole, the craftsmanship and, above all, how it sounds. People responded to it everywhere they saw it. All of our live shows with audiences saw it (from a safe distance!) and it carried more than one sing song, particularly in our apartment in Paris.
The guitar is, quite simply, a masterpiece and we felt privileged to take it with us on such a momentous trip, supporting the boys in green. Alistair and everyone involved have been so good to us and we are ever so grateful for the, what shall we call it, stewardship of this magical instrument. Thank you.  Dave (& Dermot)
