While on a whistle-stop tour of Donegal promoting their current tour and upcoming new album, well-known Irish band The 4 Of Us called into Emerald Guitars earlier this week.
Sugar Island, the new album by The 4 Of Us, chronicles the Murphy brothers’ formative years growing up in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles.
Due for release later this month, the album contains tracks as exciting, catchy and soulful as the band’s debut, Songs For The Tempted, which went straight to Number 1 on its release in 1989, spawning the hits Washington Down, Drag My Bad Name Down and Mary, still one of the most played songs on Irish radio. Since then, the band has notched up over two decades of hits from She Hits Me to Sunlight and six Top 20 charting albums.
We were very honoured to have frontman Brendan Murphy and brother Declan Murphy visit us on Monday as they came up to perform on Ocean FM with Pauric Byrne in Donegal town and join Paul McDevitt on Highland Radio’s Monday Night Sessions.
X20 Artisan Lefty
Coincidentally, Brendan was the first person to record a video with an X20 Artisan Lefty for us and as well as enjoying the tone he was impressed with the offset sound hole, which he said would be of great benefit while doing recordings or live performance with two guitars in an environment like our Black Box Studio, radio or television studio.
We were very fortunate for Brendan and Declan, who played a red X20 Artisan, to record two songs from the new album, the title track Sugar Island and Bird’s Eye View, as well as their big hit She Hits Me. Check out the new song Sugar Island above, while the other two are available to watch on our YouTube channel.
Coinciding with the launch of their new album the band are playing eleven dates culminating in a very special show at Vicar Street in Dublin which will see the full line-up of The 4 Of Us performing their latest album Sugar Island alongside their chart-topping debut Song For The Tempted. Featuring the original band members, this unmissable November gig promises a set-list of classic hit songs and brilliant new tracks from the eagerly-awaited new album.
